The International Data Protection and Privacy Commissioners' Conference
Every year in autumn, national and sub-national data protection authorities gather for the International Data Protection and Privacy Commissioners' Conference, organized by one of Europe's privacy guardians.
Overview of the most recent international conferences
Conference participants include the European data protection authorities and the European Data Protection Supervisor, all members of the Article 29 Working Party alongside the Commission for the Protection of Privacy. This is, however, also an opportunity to meet colleagues from Canada, Latin America, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Japan and other jurisdictions in the Asia-Pacific region.
Even though this is not reflected in its name, the International Data Protection and Privacy Commissioners' Conference does not only bring together representatives of the data protection authorities. It also assembles legal experts, lawyers, researchers, university professors and technicians, as well as stakeholders from the world of economy – such as companies working in the media, telecommunications or marketing, from the world of industry and from civil society – consumers' organizations and NGOs. For all of these participants, the Conference is an opportunity to be informed and to exchange information on the theme of privacy protection, to discuss matters of common interest or concern, to consider what is at stake for the future and to envisage possible solutions and cooperation methods. Open sessions for the general public are alternated with closed sessions for the supervisory authorities. At the end of the closed sessions, resolutions about current topics, reflecting the position of the " Community of Data Protection Authorities", are adopted. Resolutions are published.
