European Conference on Data Protection
The data protection authorities of the EU Member States and the Council of Europe meet annually in the spring. Sub-national authorities and EU third pillar joint supervisory bodies– the Joint Supervisory Authorities (JSAs) for Schengen, Europol and Customs – are also present, just like the European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS). Best practices and other matters of common interest are discussed in plenary sessions, and the conference traditionally ends with the adoption of a number of important documents.
Two examples of groups working on more specific issues are:
- the Working Party on Police and Justice;
- "Case Handling Workshops": international seminars organized twice a year, enabling staff members of the data protection authorities to exchange information and share experiences on case handling.
The Commission for the protection of privacy annually participates in this conference resulting in the adoption of various resolutions.
