Sector Committee of the National Register
The Sector Committees are dependent on the Commission and were created to
provide an expert answer to questions concerning very specialized matters.
The Sector Committee of the National Register supervises the observation of the
laws and regulations about the National Register, the population register and
the register of identity cards.
The National Register is the national data base including all Belgians and every person legally residing in Belgium.
The National Register contains the following data:
- name,
- first name,
- address,
- sex,
- profession,
- marital status,
- family composition,
- National Register number,
- ...
Obviously, not just anyone can access these personal data even though it is sometimes necessary to consult them. Nobody can access the National Register, however, or use the National Register numbers without having obtained authorization from the Sectoral committee of the National Register.
To a lesser extent the Sector Committee of the National Register will also issue opinions and make recommendations, but only in very specific and technical matters.
