Commission for the protection of privacy
In Belgium every individual is entitled to privacy. The right to privacy is so important that it is included in the Constitution. In other words, when your personal data are processed, you are entitled to optimum protection of your privacy. The Commission supervises the observation of this fundamental right, verifying that your personal data are not processed, used or disclosed in violation of your privacy.
How will the Commission perform this task?
We are aware that our personal data are daily processed in all possible areas of society: ranging from the registration of the birth of your child to registration for employment or membership of a sports club.
Depending on the specific area in society where your data are processed, the Commission will issue an opinion or make a recommendation about certain texts of laws or certain data processing operations.
