Organization

The Commission consists of sixteen members:

  • eight permanent members;
  • eight substitute members.

The Commission is headed by a President, who is assisted by a Vice-President. They both occupy a full-time position, whereas the other members only participate in the Commission meetings. The Commission meets every three weeks.

The President has the following tasks:

  • superior management of the Commission;
  • determination of its policy;
  • Commission representation:
    • at national level,
    • at international level;
  • daily management of the Commission;
  • presidency of Commission meetings or meetings of its subgroups;
  • presidency of the Sector Committees by law;
  • coordination between the Presidents of the various Sector Committees.

Members may also be designated to represent the Commission in working parties and international supervisory authorities.

Several Sector Committees are active within the Commission, each of them working in a specific sector. Half of their members are also members of the Commission.

Such variegated tasks require a lot of research and preparation. The Commission and the Sector Committees are therefore assisted by an administration, called the "secretariat" .

Annually, the Commission draws up an activity report.
